Summer has just begun, but it has already managed to bypass the entire last year's summer period in terms of the number of forest-steppe fires. In particular, the recent fire in Ridder destroyed up to 300 hectares of pine forest. With an eye to the difficult situation, Kazakh and Russian fire fighters jointly practice the skills of resisting natural disasters, because, as practice shows, it is really necessary to act together in the fight against fire in cross-border areas. Vyacheslav Vetlugin, correspondent:
- The place of such exercises was not chosen by chance. It is here, in the Beskaragai region, that the fire hazard period lasts 204 days a year, and in the dry season, the risk of fires increases significantly. For example, now, according to the legend of the exercises, the tape forest is burning, the fire brigade of Kazakhstan hastily left, and since this is a territory adjacent to the Russian Federation, special forces from Russia also come to the rescue. The work of emergency services is complicated by natural conditions. Wind gusts up to 12 meters per second drive the flames to the nearest village. They are trying to divert the paths of spreading fire from the settlement.
Vyacheslav Vetlugin, correspondent:
- But this dust cloud is the result of the work of special equipment. The tractors that arrived to help plow the territory, thereby trying to prevent the further spread of fire, that is, now artificial barriers are being put up in the path of the flame. But all is in vain. The fire turns into a horseback and air reinforcements are required. Vyacheslav Vetlugin, correspondent:
- Extinguishing a fire on an area of more than 200 hectares is not complete without air support. MI-8 helicopters with spillways are now loitering over the place of emergency. They will just take a decisive role in eliminating the flame.
Gani Alpyszhanov, director of the Morozov branch of the Semey Ormany RSU:
- In the event of a top fire, it is very difficult to extinguish it without the use of our aviation forestry. After the fire in Begen, we strengthened the protection of forests from fires, new fire engines were purchased. The chronology of wildfires in the region is truly shocking. In 2006, 4 thousand hectares of forest, 92 residential buildings were burnt to the ground in the Begenevsky forestry enterprise of the Beskaragai district, 5 people died. After 4 years, the tragedy repeated itself, but on a smaller scale. In 2010, the flames destroyed up to 2 thousand hectares of the forest fund. Therefore, ensuring fire safety here, in the adjacent territories of Kazakhstan and Russia, is a strategic task for the two states.
Bolat Nurdybaev, Deputy Head of the Firefighting Service of the Emergencies Ministry of the East Kazakhstan region:
- Here at the moment we are working out the arrival of personnel. This is also an important factor in extinguishing forest-steppe fires. The firefighters of Kazakhstan and Russia are learning to quickly coordinate actions and move detachments and special equipment to the place of emergency as soon as possible.
Yuri Volchenko, head of the fire and rescue squad of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Altai Territory: - We have concluded an agreement on interaction between the parties. If there is a real need for interaction to extinguish forest or landscape fires, all these points have been worked out, we will help each other. And this mutual assistance is really necessary. In the east of the country alone, 53 forest fires have occurred since the beginning of spring. The fire destroyed over 300 hectares of green space.
