On July 17, 2020, a meeting was held at the Bayanaul Aviation Department to publicly discuss the project "On strengthening responsibility for corruption among law enforcement agencies and judges, as well as spreading the concept of" corruption "in the private sector of the economy. The concept of the project was presented by the Anti-Corruption Agency (APC). The public discussion will last until July 20. Among the innovations is increased accountability for corruption among law enforcement officers and judges. It is proposed in the Criminal Code to provide for a new category of the subject of corruption - "an official with a special status - an employee of a law enforcement or special state body, a judge." The Anti-Corruption Service believes that for judges, criminal liability for corruption offenses should be stricter.
Regarding the second part of the agenda, it was reported to the personnel that, in accordance with the amendments to the criminal legislation, officials performing managerial functions in enterprises with any share of the state's participation are subjects of corruption. This year, the Anti-Corruption Service intends to go further and tackle corruption in the private sector.
Why is it important to know. Until now, in Kazakhstan, the Anti-Corruption Service has only dealt with exposing state structures and officials. If the proposals of the Anti-Corruption Agency are approved by law, the activities of this agency will extend to the business environment.
